So today on one of my many trips weekly to the local Botanica someone gave me a small Goddess Yemaya statue, I said ” no its ok i already have one of those on my altar” his reply “AND?!!, put it in your pocket or carry it with you, you never know and plus its a gift.” I humbly took it with much gratitude and placed it in my purse. At the local park I took her out looked at her , started to think of how she helped me so much, and tear a bit because I was so grateful.

“YEMAYA dear mama, I want to thank you publicly for helping me with my family life, home, motherhood, self-love, and giving me inner strength as a woman. It was you that in troubled troubled troubled times that I kneeled down and cried to and it was you that gave me comfort when I had no other. I sat afar and analyzed the oceans saw your mighty waves sink boats, create chaos and knew just how great was your mighty power is on that aspect. Always though no matter how rough things got the yang of it was that there was always calmness after the storm. No pain last forever, not problem is ever to big for you to overcome. I will always worship your and honor you. May others also, call to you and know how much peace you bring in a time of need just as you have done to my life. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH”

YEMAYA is the West African, Brazilian and Afro-Caribbean goddess Yemaya is Mother Water, orisha of the oceans. She represents mother love and the affairs of women – fertility, children, birthing, the home and family. She is the merciful goddess of creation and protector of women during conception and childbirth, and of children during their childhood. She is the deep ocean of comfort for those in need.
African deities (orishas) are usually represented by flowing, swirling images of colour and movement, depicting the elemental energies rather than an anthropomorphised image. Yemaya’s energy is depicted with sky blue, white and silver swirling colour. In other images, she is a mermaid or a beautiful woman.
Yemaya brings forth and protects life through all the highs and lows, even during the worst atrocities that can be suffered. She reminds women to take time out for themselves, to nurture their own needs and to respect their deserved position in life.
