Emilie Moe’s take on this book:

I wanted to buy this  book because, I saw it on a facebook group called Tarot Professionals . It was colorful ,focused on each card’s symbolism of the tarot and seemed that many was intrigued by it.  I am all about tarot and symbolism being that I am a very  descriptive tarot  reader when I  read with the  tarot for this  book right away drew my attention. When I saw that this book was not  just about  symbolism of the tarot but about The Rider Waite Tarot which is  many other taroist  favorite deck as well mine, I just had to see more of what this book was about, saw the  price was  right and decided to buy it.

I purchased this book on at a discounted price of $14.00 usd the going  price for it is 18.99 in local  book stores.  ( Amazon always has the best  prices I swear)  I opened the book  right away, excited to smell that fresh book scent and turned right to the  table of contents.  It did not seem  so interesting to be honest and I  thought it was just  going to be another book added to my library. They  started off with  10  reasons why they written the book and among with other topics of 10 things to about that  subject of tarot.

-10 best Tarot definitions

-10 important facts about tarot

-10 favorite ways of using a SINGLE tarot card

-10 most important rules for interpretation

– and last but, not least 10 tips for interpretation

Clearly they love the number 10 and clearly this was a good intro for tarot beginners.  I  must admit I really liked that they included 10 ways on how to read a SINGLE tarot card. This  has been a new social media  Tarot  fad these days.  Mostly everyone is doing this now in the tarot  community or has done it . From Youtube to facebook  to instagram and so forth.  From the card of the day , to learning how to find your personality card, to your card of the  year , month or week you  will learn how to do such a thing from this chapter here.  It made tarot  fun and right away  after reading this I took out some paper and started adding numbers to find my essence card and my complimentary card. I am still not sure how much of this was created to fill up the 10 spot place in the book but, hey it was entertaining.

Moving  forward. I switched my focus to some key related terms on page 17  on only the 22 tarot  major arcana cards which I knew would help beginners but, I  had little interest in.  Come on give me some meat here Johannes and Evelin.Tarot Spreads

On page 23 I  finally got to the good stuff. The major arcana full in color with each cards symbols highlighted and explained. Cool. Every piece of the  tarot  card was explained.  From how they were positioned , to the elements, to the colors , clouds in the sky , background and so forth.  They broke down the card in every element and gave it a life of its own. Everything had a meaning. Everything was placed their for a reason. The rabbit hole was getting deeper. I was definitely interested and comparing with my own interpretation of what I thought certain things meant.  Above the tarot card picture is a very brief description on the card and its meaning. They  kept it simple.  Under each tarot card picture they wrote a slogan/ quote/caption for the card. For example the Temperance is “Changing the world- and having fun doing it…”  This seems maybe to be helpful with someone who is doing card of the day for advice. ….anyhow I am still not sure why not all cards have this . Some cards do and some don’t. I wanted to see what the Tower’s was and nada. Blank.. Hangman … nothing as well beggers can’t be  choosy though. ( What would you caption for the tower card be? )

After the minors there was the top 10 tarot spreads and then how tarot and astrology connects. I love tarot and astrology . I believe that the  two  go hand and hand.  This simple quick chart  connected The Major arcana tarot cards with the corresponding planet, court card, zodiac sign and date.  Perfect for  a quick reference sheet timing for  beginners and intermediate tarot readers who wants to give a time frames or pick up on a personality trait among other things. Bravo.

Final  thoughts: I would  recommend this book to anyone who just started learning tarot and  for intermediate level tarot readers who want to study more of the tarot  in depth and its symbolism. The beginners would get the most out from buying this book though and for all its chapters. For the advanced readers who are open to others  perspective on the symbolism in tarot I would recommend buying this book to compare others perfectives.  Learning the tarot is a lifetime of learning this book  for sure will not be just taking  shelf  space for  me. I do plan on comparing this book with Secrets of the Waite-Smith Tarot: The True Story of the World’s Most Popular Tarot by Marcus Katz (Author), Tali Goodwin because, I doubt that their views are the same. I personally do not agree with all the tarot symbol meanings found in this book but, I believe it would make great conversation on theories.

(So what do you think the fish in the page of cups means?)

Buy the book  it will not be a waste of $14.00!
